An oyster purveyor who’s been in charge of New York Oyster Week for the past six years has set up a temporary eatery in the EDGE District, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Kevin Joseph operates his Empire Oyster raw bar out of the Intermezzo Cafe on Central Avenue four days a week for limited hours. But already he’s attracted quite a following. His goal is to serve up nine different kinds of oysters, along with a healthy side of education about sustainablity. According to food critic Laura Reiley, “The first week in March he sold 600 oysters, the second week it went up to 1,000 and this past weekend Joseph zipped through 1,400 of the bivalves. All via word of mouth.” The location is at 1111 Central Ave., just about a half-mile from our site. Read the entire profile here.
